Stitches are out

Today I had the stiches removed from the biopsy site, I should put a picture in here of my scar I might do so later.

I didn't feel a thing not really all that strange the surgeon did remove a piece of nerve afterall.

I've been told to take it very easy for the next few days as it would be very easy to open up the wound now that the stitches are not holding it closed.

What's it all about?

It's been 4 and a bit months since I put anything on here, will it have been worth the wait I doubt that very much.

Since my last post I finally got an appointment to have a nerve biopsy done only to have it cancelled at the last moment. This was so disappointing, I had a week to psyche myself up for it only to be told the day before it had been cancelled. After a fortnight of dispare and deepening depression I got a phone call from the hospital to say I had a new time and day for said biopsy to be carried out. Again a week to wait for the date to come around and yesterday was the day. I arrived at the Western General yesterday morning at 07.45 and booked in. At 08.20 I was being wheeled downstairs to the theatre, prior to this though I was supposed to have blood taken for even more blood tests. Couldn't have them taken because my consultant has such lousy handwriting thast no one could decipher what was written on the test envelope.

Down in theatre was met by a great bunch of people who made me feel very calm. The surgeon explained to me exactly what was going to happen and the aftermath of the proceedure including the fact that once the piece of nerve was removed it would never grow back. I might end up with part of my foot going completely numb or it may increase the burning I already feel there - wait and see .

I was given a local aneasthetic to numb my leg around my ankle and wheeled into the theatre proper. Because of the shape of the room, round with domed ceiling filled with large lights I was able to watch on the glass fronts of these overhead lights, which weren't used, the surgeon only used a small light similar to the ones you see in dentists.

The entire procedure took about half an hour maybe a little more but not much more I could see the lot from the first slice of the scalpel and my skin split open to the last stitch.

When she reached the nerve she accidentally touched it I felt an electric shock shoot down into my foot which nearly made me jump. She told me she would count down from 3 to give me warning that she was about to cut through the nerv and kill it forever. I never got to crack the joke about will it be cut on 1 or 1 and then cut she reached 1 and cut out the nerve the electric shock which came with it made my toes curl it only lasted a split second but it's a long time since I received a shock like that I have received a few 240v shocks in my life and each is painful.

I could have been heading for home by 10.20 if my own consultant had taken more care with her handwriting skills. It took until 11.45 to track her down and get her to rewrite the blood test form. Sharon, Dale and Korey came to meet me and give me a lift home.

I now have two day lying in bed taking it easy and then another seven or eight off work until my stitches come out on Friday next week.

Enough rambling I no longer know why I write this blog - no one ever reads it except myself. Perhaps it just makes me feel better to put some of my thoughts into words on a page.

Feet and other things.

I had a 5 hour consult with a specialist in Glasgow the other week, a very worthwhile experience. He patiently asked questions and listened to the answers before forming his next question. Which was refreshing as my consultant in Edinburgh seemed to have a list of questions which she would ask and had already included answers to them so didn't appear to have to listen too much to her patient - me - give answers. He also had more tests done on my muscle and never endings which showed that feet and legs are worse than they were last year at this time and my hands have damage to the nerves as well mainly in the palms. Upshot is that I had around about a quarter pint of blood taken for more tests - don't Doctors love a blood test - waiting to hear about those now. He will be recommending to my Edinburgh Specialist that I have a nerve biopsy. I wonder how long that will take there never seems to be any sense of urgency within the NHS. I'll have to look up what is involved in a nerve biopsy.

It's raining outside as I write / type - which is it when you use a keyboard do you write or type or perhaps both. The drugs I'm on make me almost permanently tired and addled at times they never stop the pain which is getting worse by the day it seems. A Sottish summer is upon us no kidding.

Just completing 10 - 11 hour shifts and feeling very tired - two of the Jannie's are either sick or on holiday so I am on my own, great fun not, it is truly hard work being a Jannie especially when you're the Head Jannie. We go on holiday next week for a fortnight and I am so looking forward to it. We are away to Southport for a week a complete break from work and home then back to some decorating around the house, do I ever rest.

Korey my grandson is now 16 months old and a wee smasher running around and trying to speak but not quite there with some of the words he uses. My niece was 21 last week went to party and enjoyed myself - there I'm not a total grump.

Anyway I'm off for a bit I may put some holiday snaps on here then again I might not who knows I don't.

time just flys by when you're enjoying yourself

Again it has been a while since I was here - not that that makes any difference as I'm the only one who reads this.
Anyway, the bathroom is complete next move is the front bedroom, then the back bedroom then the hall and stairs the small back bedroom/study. it just goes on and on.

I have an appointment to see a consultant in Glasgow re my deadening nerves, he's a really big specialist so I'm told probably just 6ft 6in hahahaha.

Big toe still hurts on a daily basis. The drugs I take for everything from angina to nerve pain are making me depressed and getting me right down some days. But hell you've just got to get on with it haven't you?

Latest book I've just finished reading was by Chris Carter called The Crucifix Killer. This was a really good read, thoroughly enjoyed it to such an extent that I had to sit up till quite late to finish the last two or three chapters. So recommended to all my phantom readers ****.

I have just started reading The Last Gospel by David Gibbins, I'll let you know how that goes soon.

I am thinking of putting more photos on here of the completed bathroom and of course of my little grandson who is now 15 months and a star. Slide shows to come soon watch out for that.

long time since........

It has been a long time since I posted. The books have been read and enjoyed. Glad to have Lost and Fringe back on the telly, oh also Stargate Universe and Flashforward so I'm made up and happy. I have almost completed the conversion of my bathroom into a shower room - been a very busy old man hahaha.

The feet are not getting any better and my hands are getting worse still no word on what it is that's wrong with my nerves. I had more tests in February but they were negative so don't have what that test was for - cryoglobularaneamia - so glad because I can barely spell it. My consultant is consulting with other consultants so I feel so much better LOL.
The pain never goes away so it makes it hard some days to appear happy, more bad days than good days of late, but you just have to get on with it.

You might remember that I broke my big toe on my left foot last year well it hurts like bloody hell nearly every day, so aren't I a lucky bugger.

Young Korey had his first birthday in March hard to believe how quickly that year has flown by.

Enough for now I'll try and post again soon and also try to be happier hahaha LOL.

Order in Chaos

Just started reading 'Order in Chaos' by Jack Whyte, the third in the Templar series of books. just about at chapter 6 and Jack is maintaining the same great writing and imagination that he brought to life in parts one and two. 'Knights of the Black and White' and 'Standards of Honour'.

Latest book

I've just finished reading Dan Brown's The lost Symbol.

It was a pretty good read although some of the plot twists were very contrived. it was also about four chapters too long. Almost seemed like the author was paid for so many words and came up short once the story climaxed and tried to pad it out with an extra four chapters, instead of going back and padding the exciting bits. It was so clear right from the beginning that Mal'ak the bad guy was Peter's son Zachary. The out of body stuff was quite frankly crap. The CIA security director, Sato, well if this is the type of person the Americans put in charge of things then god help us all. The hero Professor Langdon throughout the entire book refused point blank to be educated in anything that he didn't already know, in other words if he didn't already know it then it wasn't worth knowing - a true academic - and this was truly annoying by the time the story actually finished. Everyone kept saying to him "please believe", "have faith" no chance with our hero I know better than anyone I'm the hero don't you know, bollocks.

Overall though it was still a reasonably good read and passed away a few idle hours.

7 out of 10 good effort, but a poor endeavour after his other two with the Professor, Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code.
